Effect of Harvesting Stage and Drying Method on Cowpea Leaf Nutrient Composition

Cowpea leaves are lost annually due to infestation and spoilage when being transported clients the losses at local markets brought on by inadequate postharvest handling procedures market glut, particularly during peak seasons. High moisture content from cowpea harvest stage may contribute increased hence lowering quantity quality. The choice of appropriate harvesting drying method can help reduce this problem. aim study was determine best efficient that would maintain high leaf nutrient composition. Cowpeas variety M66 used for research treatments included three stages (21, 35 49 days after sowing [DAS]), methods (open sun, solar dryer oven. Data collected iron, calcium, crude fibre, beta carotene, protein content. data subjected variance using Statistical Analysis System 9.2 edition significantly different means separated least significant difference 5%. results indicated (p<0.05) differences in moisture, proteins, carotene fibre both trials. Harvest did not influence iron Oven showed better mineral retention compared open sun method.
